When writing a blog, you should try to become a blog expert. This means that besides writing an awesome blog, there are other things you should also be doing to increase your readership.
One of the fastest and simplest ways for a blog to attract new readers is by using advertising. The downside of this, of course, is that advertising costs money. And unless you are also promoting a business or trying to sell something, spending money on ads just to get more readers isn’t one of the top things to do. Below we discuss other ways you can get more viewers to your blog.
Become an expert. Research and write about topics that are related to each other to become the go-to person for a specific subject. Your audience will learn to trust your advice, and continue returning to your blog. They are also likely to refer other people to your blog as well.
Make sure your articles are high quality. If you have a lot of typos, spelling errors, or grammatical mistakes, you make yourself look like an amateur. People won’t take you seriously and they’ll avoid your blog. The same is true if you have incorrect facts or lie to your readers.
Be sure your posts read like articles and not ad copy. Many blog writers promote affiliates in their posts. For instance, if you are writing a blog about websites and have an affiliate account with a company that provides web hosting, you might be tempted to push that hosting company in your blog posts. But if the post reads like a sales pitch, readers may not return. You may want to mention it as one of a number of companies that provides that service, but you should also have a disclaimer somewhere in your post that one of the companies you mention is an affiliate of yours.
If you write multiple posts on one topic, make sure you’re cross-referencing them. Not only will readers read the one article, but chances are they’ll check out the other ones you’ve written on the topic if they’re right in front of them. This will increase the number of views on your website if a “unique” reads more than one post of yours. You should also be sure to have a Related Posts widget or plugin that automatically adds links to similar posts at the end of each article.
Try to get your readers to do something with each article. The conclusion of your articles should specify what steps the reader should take. It is fine if these steps are obvious. You can also use large buttons to make it easier. If you do this, you’re more likely to influence your readers to act. These actions could include asking readers to comment or perhaps even offer suggestions as to what else you could write. This begins to engage your readers more and will help make them loyal readers of your blog.
There are other calls to action you can ask of your readers. Near or at the end of each article, encourage them to subscribe to your blog or follow one of your social media accounts. Although you may have these in a sidebar or footer of your blog, by also having them in each article you have a better chance of getting the readers to respond.
We are sure there are other ways you can become a blog expert. Write any ideas you may have in a comment below or perhaps send us a tweet @blogerator on Twitter. We would love to hear from you!
