Some of the success of your blog can be attributed to how your blog website is organized. Not only do you have to spend time writing your posts, but you should also think about and plan how everything is going to look on your website.
One of the first things to think about is what your website will be called. You want to be able to pull or drag people in, just by the website’s title alone. Readers want to have their curiosity satisfied. If you ask a question or make them wonder in the title of your website, readers will be attracted to finding out what the answer is. Use this to your advantage by dragging readers into your site, and hopefully they will stick around for your interesting content.
You will want to register a domain name that is the same as the title of your blog website. So before you get too far with the title of your blog, you should search to see if the domain name is available. You should always use the .com domain name. Although there are many other extensions you could use, most people type in the .com first, so if you have some other extension, you are possibly losing traffic to the .com version of the same name.
Make sure that your website is user friendly. If people can’t figure out how to do what they need to do, or find the information they are looking for, many of them will give up and go away frustrated. Not only does this lose them as a loyal reader, but they are less likely to refer you to a friend. Most website themes are very clear so try not to get too fancy or out of the norm with the website layout.
You will want your blog posts to stand out on your website. Make sure to put your posts in a prominent, easy-to-locate area of the website. Not only does it allow visitors to the site to immediately see your content, but it also brings more credibility to you as a writer. Each blog post should have its own post URL, but the front or home page of your blog should show your latest posts.
It is also a good idea to not have any of your blog posts be too long. Your website’s home page will have your latest posts in sequential order, the latest post at the top. For blogs, it is usually best to include the entire blog posts on the home page, so you will maybe have five or so full posts on the home page. If one of those posts rambles on and on and ends up really long, new readers to your blog may not stick with it.
You will want to be sure to use plugins or tools to help arrange and promote your blog. If you use WordPress, for instance, there are plugins to automatically send emails to subscribers after each blog post, notifications to other websites that you have made a new post, and even can automatically make posts on social media sites.
Also whenever you post a new blog, be sure that it contains pertinent links to some of your other blog posts. By doing this, you can get more of your articles read and give your entire website more exposure. This sort of cross-linking is also good for search engine optimization, or SEO.
You can also enrich your articles with other links. Your blog post may hold a wealth of information, but if you find related topics that your target audience may enjoy, link to them! Readers love when they can trust a writer to help them find more information on a topic, even if it wasn’t written by the author themselves. Outside links also help your SEO. These outside links should be made so the readers’ web browser opens in a new tab or window so that they always have a window remaining open on your blog.
There is a lot more to a blog website than just writing your thoughts in a post. If you plan and think about the arrangement of your website and how your posts can link and be promoted, you should find yourself increasing the number of views to your website in no time!
